I could be a rich women

If I could find a way to bottle and sell puppy energy!
New photos of Hazel's pups taken this morning.  I think the word to describe these pups is effervescent!  Fizzy, bubbly, full of energy.  They had an absolute ball out in the big yard, it was the first time I took the whole litter out and just let them loose, no pen, no boundaries, tons of grass to kick up their heels and just run.  What fun, enjoy the photos.

As part of my Chicken 'enrichment' program the pups went over to entertain them :-)
I adore my chickens, but look at the expressions...good thing there is a fence as I see evil intent there
Maybe some devious plotting!

Puppy Meet & Greet

We are having a puppy open house for everyone taking one of Hazel's pups on Sunday August the 26th from 11am to 1pm.  Please email me to let me know if you will be able to make it or not.  For those that have never been to our home, or, just need directions again, I will email to you once you confirm you are coming to visit.
This will be outside, we have a raised covered deck in case of rain, so dress appropriately, i.e. be prepared for possible wet dog paws on your laps.
If you have any questions about settling your new pup into your home bring those along and I am happy to talk about acclimating, training, feeding and all things puppy.

Thinking outside the box

When I clean out the puppy box it makes my life easier to pop them in a crate, this little one has been working well.  They are growing fast now and I think in a couple of days I will need something larger to contain them.
This weekend Hexe's pups moved downstairs and I shifted Hazel over to the spare room.  Hazel ( and especially Mick) were not too pleased with being set up in our bathroom, although a large room it was a bit too active :-)  Hazel was thrilled with the change over, I was thrilled because the little monsters pups were getting out of the previous puppy box and roaming around the bathroom at night.

My apologizes for these photos, not my finest hour with the camera.  I think it is time for a Puppy Pool Party photo session like the one that Hexe & crew had the other week.  Check back for new photos soon.
"Noooo don't do it sister, Lori only just cleaned our diggs!"
"You should look embarrassed, I can't believe you couldn't hold it for a few minutes"

Oh my how we've grown

Hard to believe these are the same pups in the last post.  Yep, eyes are open, they have found their voices and are 'trying' to find their legs.
The goofy looking pup above and below is the boy, a real comedian, he obviously takes after his dad

Random puppy photos

OMG!  How wonderful did this photo turn out!

Most of our pups are Pepper & Salt, but, Hazel's litter is all Black, except for this beautiful girl, which makes her the 'unique' pup in the litter.  It's all perspective.
Pups were bundled up and taken into the vets today for their check-up and tail docking, all went well and mom Hazel was concerned and relieved to have her pups back.  They have all settled back in and I couldn't resist taking a photo of this pup.

What a day

Hazel and her pups only a couple hours old
Starting last Thursday Hazel and I have been making almost daily trips into the vet to have the fetal heart rate monitored on the pups she was carrying.  The vet does this with an ultrasound machine, locating the pups heart and counting beats per minute.  Above 200 beats is normal for pups NOT yet ready to be born.  Once that heart rate drops below 200 it is a sign that labour is in progress and pups are on the way.  Thursday all were well above 200, Saturday...all above 200, Sunday...still above 200.  Come Monday the heart rates had dropped substantially, telling us that Hazel should be in labour and delivering her pups...now.  However, Hazel ate a big breakfast and was showing no sign that she was going to deliver her pups.  The decision was made to perform a c-section immediately while Hazel wasn't under any stress and we knew that up until the prior afternoon all the pups were in normal range.  30 minutes later we were toweling off six SCREAMING pups.  What a wonderful sound compared to the silence after Hazel's first attempt at motherhood when all the pups were tragically still born.
Hazel was sedated initially for surgery at 12:55pm by 3:15pm I had her and her 6 pups all safely home and in the nursery box.  Mom was very groggy and required my carrying her upstairs and setting pups on her to nurse.  She was pretty much zonked the entire evening, had a little rice & ground chicken and then slept the night away.  This morning she is looking much more alert and everyone seems to be doing very well, whew!  I can do without going through that sort of ordeal too often.
We have set Hazel up in a quiet corner in the laundry room/bathroom, Hexe is across the hall in the spare bedroom with her one week old pups.  Hazel is oblivious to Hexe, while Hexe is beside herself hearing the pups across the hall.  I have two baby gates and an exercise pen set up between the two moms, hoping that will keep Hexe on her own side of the hallway.
More photos of the new pups below, we have 4 black females, 1 black male and 1 very dark Pepper & Salt female.  If you are on my waiting list please know that I will be in touch with you in the next day or so to discuss placement of the pups, I know many were wanting a black male, I will need you decide if you are open to a black female instead.

Almost impossible to pick out the Pepper & Salt pup :-)
